Micro-Breweries and Wineries

In a word: lots. Albuquerque and its surrounds have won national recognition for micro-brews. New Mexico breweries (about 20 in the metropolitan area)took home medals at the World Beer Cup, an international competition held biennially, this year in Philadelphia. Boxing Bear, Nexus, and La Cumbre (all from Albuquerque) won gold medals. Three other brew pubs won silver and bronze medals. Marble Brewery, who won a bronze medal, will be our 2017 NSS Convention Brew Sponsor. Vino consumers will be thrilled by the abundance of Sandoval County vintners. Wine production dates back more than two centuries in this county. All of the wineries offer tours and tastings. There is a Corrales/Rio Rancho Wine Trail Loop where you can visit four wineries only 5 minutes apart and make a day of it.

Restaurants

No adventure in New Mexico is complete until you have experienced our cuisine. Unlike any other, it is a blend of flavors from Spanish and Native American cultures that has been perfected over the course of 400 years. At the center of it all is the New Mexican chile, in both red and green varieties, which is used in everything from enchiladas to ice cream. Whether you are looking for a dining experience that has received a James Beard award or an authentic dive off the beaten path, you will find it here.

Scenic Byways

New Mexico is home to 25 magnificent scenic byways, totaling over 2,900 miles across a diverse landscape. In fact, eight of the 126 America's Byways are right here in our state. The America's Byways Program is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, and was established to help recognize, preserve and enhance selected roads throughout the states. The U.S. Secretary of Transportation recognizes these designated roads based on one or more intrinsic qualities — archaeological, cultural, historic, natural, recreational, or scenic. You don’t have to take their word for it. We’ll let you be the judge.
